Pre & Post natal physical therapy

PRE-NATAL PHYSICAL THERAPY

It is not uncommon to experience pain and discomfort during pregnancy. The body is rapidly changing with the growth of your fetus and that puts the joints ligaments and tendons under significant stress. Coupled with these changes are various hormonal changes that make your body lax and susceptible to injury. Pelvic floor physical therapy is an effective and safe treatment of choice during pregnancy. I commonly see pregnant clients for low back pain, tail bone pain, sciatic pain, hip and pelvic floor pain, pubis pain.

POST-NATAL PHYSICAL THERAPY

After giving birth female body undergoes structural and hormonal changes. Birthing can often times cause trauma to the pelvic floor. Very commonly women present with symptoms like leaking urine and/or feces, pain with sexual intercourse, pain in the low back, SI joint pain, pubic symphysis pain. Diastasis recti is a separation of the rectus abdominus muscle and can be a leading cause of your “mommy tummy”. Pelvic physical therapy can skillfully evaluate and successfully treat this condition that can dramatically improve your appearance after birth. This condition can be treated as early as 6 weeks after giving birth and I have seen and successfully treated the patient even as late as 10 -15 years postpartum. It is important to get your diastasis treated as it predisposes you to low back pain and abdominal hernia.
