Musculoskeletal pain – Pelvic floor muscles are a group of muscles that support the lower side of your pelvis, running from the tailbone to the pubic bone. These muscles play many roles in the body including supporting the spine, controlling the bladder and bowel, organ support, and sexual function. Due to their many functions, issues can arise that cause dysfunction across multiple systems of the body. These include the urinary, gastrointestinal, reproductive and orthopedic systems.
Pelvic floor muscles are similar to regular muscles—they can cause pain and discomfort. However, the pain often presents a bit differently and can be experienced as vaginal, rectal, clitoral, testicular, or penile pain. We treat all of these symptoms with the goal of restoring patients back to their pain-free levels.
Musculoskeletal pain or disorder is an injury to the bones, muscles, ligaments, tendons, spinal discs, fascia or other soft tissue. Musculoskeletal disorders are extremely common and very costly.
According to the Centers for Disease Control:
Musculoskeletal disorders are the most common reason people over the age of 50 become disabled (reduced quality of life).
Musculoskeletal pain is the most common reason people over 50 go to the doctor aside from the common cold.
Musculoskeletal disorders are the single largest category of on-the-job injuries.
Musculoskeletal disorders cost U.S. companies $50 billion annually in direct medical costs
